Plants create biomass which is essentially the plant producing new cells by cell division.

Cell division multiplies the number of cells. The new plant cells stretch or elongate for the plant to mature by a process called cell elongation. This process is indirectly regulated by hormones produced within the plant.

Plant growth regulators control these hormones, limiting elongation. The desired result is shorter, finer, deeper-coloured leaf growth, reduced internode distances and a tighter leaf canopy with the benefits of less mowing.
